Adirondack Park Visitors Interpretive Center in Paul Smiths: Interpretive trails, the Butterfly House and resident hawks are just ten minutes away.
Short Hikes Suitable for Children: Owls Head in Keene, Baker Mountain in Saranac Lake, Silver Lake Mountain in Silver Lake, Baxter Mountain in Keene, First Brother in Keene, Mount Jo at the Adirondack Loj. Several of these are near Rainbow Lake.
High Peaks: 46 peaks above 4000 feet are nearby. Mt. Marcy, Mt. Colden, Phelps, Indian Pass and Avalanche Pass are accessible from the Adirondack Loj.
