DRIVING

From New York City, New Jersey, Connecticut (5-6 hour drive):
Take the New York State Thruway (I-87) north to Exit 24 (Albany). Continue on I-87 north (Adirondack Northway) to Exit 30. Follow Route 9 north to Route 73 west to Route 86 West to Saranac Lake. Continue on Route 86 to the town of Gabriels. Turn right at the "Corner Cafe" following signs to Rainbow Lake. After 3 miles turn left onto Hull Road. For Heron Cabin turn left off the paved road at the Gnome Hill sign then left down the second driveway. For Owl, Loon and Birch Cabins bear right up the hill at the end of the pavement. Loon and Owl are at the end of the dirt road.

From Boston (5-6 hour drive):
Take the Massachusetts Turnpike West to Albany. Take I-87 north (Adirondack Northway) to Exit 30. Follow Route 9 north to Route 73 west to Route 86 West to Saranac Lake. From Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse:
Take the New York State Thruway (I-90) east to I-81 in Syracuse. Follow I-81 north to Watertown, then take Route 3 east to Saranac Lake. Take Route 86 West to the town of Gabriels. Turn right at the "Corner Cafe" following signs to Rainbow Lake. After 3 miles turn left onto Hull Road. For Heron Cabin turn left off the paved road at the Gnome Hill sign then left down the second driveway. For Owl, Loon and Birch Cabins bear right up the hill at the end of the pavement. Loon and Owl are at the end of the dirt road.

From Ottawa:
Take routes south to Cornwall Bridge. Pick up Route 37 East to Malone. Follow Route 30 south to Route 86. In the small town of Gabriels, turn left at the "Corner Cafe" following signs to Rainbow Lake. After 3 miles turn left onto Hull Road. For Heron Cabin turn left off the paved road at the Gnome Hill sign then left down the second driveway. For Owl, Loon and Birch Cabins bear right up the hill at the end of the pavement. Loon and Owl are at the end of the dirt road.

From Montreal (2 1/2 hour drive):
Take Route 15 south to Champlain crossing connecting with I-87 south. Take Exit 38 onto Route 374 west. Take exit for Route 3, Saranac Lake. Soon after passing Loon Lake, turn right onto County Route 60 following signs for Onchiota. Rainbow Lake is about 10 miles from Route 3. Turn right onto Hull Road (after passing under electric lines). For Heron Cabin turn left off the paved road at the Gnome Hill sign then left down the second driveway. For Owl, Loon and Birch Cabins bear right up the hill at the end of the pavement. Loon and Owl are at the end of the dirt road.

AIR SERVICE

The Adirondack Regional Airport in Lake Clear, only 8 miles from Rainbow Lake, offers commercial flights on USAir. Call 800-428-4322 for flight information and reservation. Airport phone: 518-891-2290.

RAIL SERVICE

AMTRAK operates between New York City and Montreal. Local stops are in Westport and Plattsburg, NY (both about 50 miles from Rainbow Lake). Schedule information: 800-USA-RAIL. Shuttlebus service: 518-523-4431

BUS SERVICE

Adirondack Trailways bus depot is conveniently located in downtown Saranac Lake at the Hotel Saranac. Schedule information: 800-225-6815. Bus Depot: 518-891-3300.
